Small Business SEO Case Study: Growing Google Rankings from the Ground Up

A few months ago, these websites were just an idea in someone’s head. Something they were dreaming about but not quite sure how to execute.

They had worked with a friend to build the original sites. Built in a platform that wasn’t designed for lead generation, but rather for ecommerce and sales. The team was needing more leads, understood the importance of having a website that is easy to use and easy for customers to convert.

Before we could focus on lead growth, we had to give Google a stronger foundation to work with.

That meant rebuilding these websites from the ground up, submitting new sitemaps, improving page titles and descriptions, updating on-page content and making sure each website clearly communicated what the business offers and where it operates.

Now, we’re beginning to see that work pay off.

In August, the client saw improved average Google ranking by over 5 positions while also earning over 30% better click-through-rates.

Are these websites finished growing? Not even close. Most of their important searches are still below page one, which means there is a lot more opportunity ahead. But moving up five or six positions in a single month is a strong sign that Google is beginning to better understand and trust these websites.

This is what the early months of SEO often look like. You build the foundation, watch how Google responds and continue improving the website month after month. The results build gradually, but so does the value of the work already completed.

I’m genuinely excited to keep working with this client as we create location-specific pages, strengthen their service content and grow their organic traffic and, ultimately, the number of qualified leads their websites produce.

If you have a solid business but your website isn’t helping people find you, I offer ongoing SEO support (enjoy my flat-fee structure that works for most). I’d be happy to take a look at where your website currently stands and talk about what realistic growth could look like.
